Ledgen Bicycle Trip

Guten Tag!

I´ve just returned from my first hair cut in this country and loved it very much! My hairdresser, whom also happen to be Sandra, Silvia and Elka´s hairdresser sure does know how to make a hairstyle practical and yet sexy. My request were simple. Just give me VOLUME and she surely DID. I loved it!

And to the fact that it cost a mere 18 euro (cheaper than my RM25.00 haircut in Malaysia!), and I was given choices of drinks which came FOC with the haircut (and I chose a frothy cup of cappuccino, just like those served in a cafe) and I was thinking ... where to find in Malaysia???!!! When I return back home a while ago, and being the vain me, I started camwhoring my new hair with my new C&A hat! I loveeeee my new hair, and I loveeeee my new hat! Ahhhh ... I am sooo vain!

Back to this post hehe, well ... another bicycle ride but this time, I told Juergen that I´m up for more km this time round. Confident lah with my bicycle now. Technically, not mine yet and Juergen insisted that we go try out another one at the shop to be sure that I really, really want this bicycle coz it ain´t cheap. From what I´d seen in the shop, its around the region of 500-800 Euro and it better be something that I love, or else it will go to waste isn´t it? Anyway and again, we decided to make a trip to Ledgen, a small town near Ahaus which is located about 7km away. All and all, we cycled a good 17km that Sunday morning. The weather was lovely, and we packed a simple picnic lunch too.

Here´s what we saw ...

A rapseed field full of rapseed flowers!

Rapseed flower are used to produce Rapseed oil, a supposedly healthier oil and unlike olive oil that burns at temperature more than 120C, rapseed oil can go up to 180C. According to Juergen. I have yet to try Rapseed oil, but I guess I will try soon as its very affordable here.

The other thing we saw were sheeps. Small sheeps, big sheeps, skinny sheeps, fat sheeps, I don´t give a damn sheep and of course, ONE very busy body sheep. She was so curious (hahaha, am not sure if its a she or he, and I´m just being judgemental!) and kept on posing for the camera without fail. She would walk a few feet away and look at me again. And again. AND AGAIN!

Every single time I click on and she seems to know it. Must be female intuition. Haha.

One of the main reason why we decided on a bicycle tour was, it was Monument Day that day.

That means that private owned monument buildings which are usually close to public eye will take the opportunity to showcase to all their wonderful stuffs. We weren´t sure which monuments or old castle are involve this year but we rode to this castle on the way to Ledgen anyway. It was supposedly owned by a royalty still, but with no power whatsoever and working as a tax consultant like everyone else. His private castle were closed to public but he was seen attending to a group of antique car enthusiast visiting the castle. The royalty, whom carred a Lord title still, were seen greet the visitor, followed by him giving an insight historical information of his place and lastly, serving them some special liquor, supposedly handed down from his ancestor guess. I, of course were lost in transition over what´s being communicated and only relied on Juergen to tell me bits and pieces but nonetheless, had so much fun snapping photos of the surroundings, the people as well as the gorgeous antique cars!

And, and ....

Juergen shared with me that renting the antique car over the weekend is sooo possible for us! It is very affordable and we can choose whatever type and colour we want! And we can drive them to somewhere, somewhere like Bavaria or something and upon hearing that ..

I got soooo thrilled and immediately, was imagining myself ala Audrey Hepburn with Hermes scarves and big sunglasses wrapping my asian face with wind blowing my face ... dreaming away as usual ...

Hahaha. I can´t wait for it! Only hope is, the weather will stay this way, otherwise we have to wait till spring.

One of the thing I really like about here is, there is no qualm about taking photo whatsoever. No need to ask permission etc. Everyone here seems to take it easy and if you decide to snap a photo of them, they will welcome it as a compliment. This, I like.

After our photo session, we made our way to Ledgen town which was not far from the castle.

But before that, something happend!

Look! Juergen, the traffic controller!

He was approached by the same group of Antique Car Enthusiast to control the oncoming traffic when we bumped into them at the last junction before entering Ledgen. We had hard time controlling our laughter later!

Check out THE RED ANTIQUE CAR!!!

LIEBE, LIEBE, LIEBE!

Back to life ...

Ledgen was not faraway away from this junction. It is a town known for its Dahlia flower, and exports them to all over the world. The other thing Ledgen is famous for is, it being a party town. I´m not sure what that means.

I guess, I will have to find out in the near future.

The town was more or less similar like any German town in Munsterland. There´s always a church and a Rathaus - towh hall office where all government matters are transacted. After snapping a few pics, we rode back by another route back to Ahaus. But, not before stopping for lunch! And as how luck has it, we found the most perfect spot for our picnic lunch. Its a private own bench set, overlooking a farm with the fattest, laziest looking sheep ever trying to munch on as much grass as possible. I was told that, although its private own, its alright to use as long as we keep them as it was.

Respect their property lah.

It is here that we basked ourselves under the sunny Deutschland sun, sipping our Riesling wine, and munching on Smorgasbord of Turkey Ham, Gouda Cheese and Ripe Italian Tomato. We later had some Apple Crumble Cake, something which I baked a few days earlier. Lastly, ending our meal with freshly sliced oranges and fresh figs.

It was another great bicycle trip. Can´t wait for next week!
